Turbo--At Nine

Turbo turned nine on the last day of school here--just as Memorial Day weekend was starting.
Nine.  His last year as a single digit.  After this he's headed inevitably toward being a teenager.  An adolescent.  No longer my little boy.
Right now he's all knees and elbows.  One poor knee seems to have a target on it as that is the one that he is forever scraping and banging.
He swings from being sweet and helpful to moody and distinctly not helpful in the space of minutes.  He finds his little brother a nuisance and fun to be with by turns.
He's baffling to me, this half grown boy.  One second he's ready to be independent and the next he is willing to snuggle up with me.  We keep getting glimpses of the teen to come.  It scares me a bit.  OK, a lot.
He's my oldest, my first, the one I got to make mistakes with first.  He has taught me so much and shown me that there is so much more to learn.

I love you Turbo.  Have a great year and enjoy being a boy for as long as you can.

  1. Wow, nine! I saw a friend of mine and his two boys (9 and almost 7) at the store last night and I think I found myself in awe of boys that age. Elliot is only about to turn 5 and he baffles me now; what will nine be like?!

  2. Aw, such a sweet post in honour of your 9-year-old boy! :)

  3. Aw, happy birthday Turbo! He'll always be your little boy, I'm sure...

  4. Last year as a single digit.

  5. Nine is the best year ever! Have a great year, Turbo!

  6. Nine is looking pretty good on him. Happy Birthday Turbo!

I love to get comments! They make my heart go pitter-pat! Go on comment--I'll do my best to go give your blog some love too!
