On Random Stuff

Tuesday.  It's not Monday, it's one day closer to the weekend, so a better day all around. now it's time to do the Random:

  • This afternoon I get to take Bruiser to the eye doctor.  He might have astigmatism. We shall see.
  • February is flying by. We have been so busy. Meetings, work, kid doctor appointments.  We feel like we have been chasing our tails.  And not successfully catching them.
  • Nick got side step bars for the truck. Makes getting in and out of the truck way easier.
  • Any one got any bright ideas for getting a way too smart for his own good four year old to think that going to potty is something he needs to do all the time, not just to get the prize? We are pretty stymied.  He seems to think that he doesn't need to go to the bathroom any more. Nothing works.  he has the idea, he just doesn't want to.
  • I hate migraines.  This winter/springish time of year has been rough on me migraine wise.
  • Turbo had a good time at our office yesterday.  He got to play on a computer all day, have chinese noodles and chicken for lunch, and see our new offices.  All in all, he was pleased with how the day went.
  • I'm so over insomnia.  It hit last night.  Now I'm tired.  And no hope of a nap. It's frowned on to nap at my desk.  There really should be a designated nap time for adults.  I'm really, really sorry that I skipped all the napping opportunities I had as a kid. I could sure use them now.
And with that, I'll wrap up my random.  Go see Stacy for more Random posts.

  1. I wish I could offer potty training advice. The prize or candy idea never worked for Elliot. For Isaac, he likes to get the candy but he actually goes because he wants to, oddly enough. I find that just leaving them to it has worked for mine, though it won't for everyone!

  2. As for the potty training I've found that works for one doesn't always work for another and the little ones who don't catch on right away or start and stop.. Eh. They'll get it eventually. Other than the whole pull up/diaper thing for mom and dad, I don't really see it as a big deal. And yeah. I'm about done with insomnia too! Ugh..

  3. Back before pullups and paper diapers we just put the boys in underpants and didn't wavier. The boys found out very quickly that wet and poopy underpants are no fun. After a certain age (3 1/2 for the older boy) we sort of said; if you messed them you had to clean them. Took about a week for that to totally gross him out enough and he stopped having accidents. With our youngest, we sent him to preschool. He came home toilet trained. I don't know how they did it. Peer pressure? Whatever they did it was wonderful because I was dreading having to go through it again.

We also picked an age (13) where the boys had to do their own laundry. Best thing we ever did and it kind of followed the theme of you messed it up you have to clean it up.

Good luck with it. I think consistency is the name of the game.

Insomnia is no ones friend. I'm sorry to hear that you suffer from both migraines and insomnia.

  8. I'm glad you're noticing his astigmatism now. I had headaches for years before finally getting glasses for mine at 16. I do regret never trying contacts. Now I can't stand the idea of them, but if I'd started younger I might not have minded.

Good luck with the potty training. I hope eventually it all just clicks for him. Maybe teach him to change his own diaper ;-)

  9. I'm here from TTUT....I remember potty training being a BIG pain. My son has autism, every thing seems harder for him to get. One thing a friend suggested that helped, is to let him run around COMPLETELY naked - of course this requires staying home for awhile, but it did send him to the potty....just regular underwear didn't seem to do that, he didn't care if they were wet...but having NOTHING on seemed to do the trick! Fortunately it only took a couple of days (and he wore pullups at night till he stopped peeing at night...that took FOREVER!)

  10. The only advice I have about the whole potty training thing is if he's not ready to be potty trained, he just won't do it. Advice given to me with Princess Nagger was driving me CRAZY with her unwillingness to be potty trained was that if you push it too hard, they'll resist it much longer. We did the treat/reward system and she finally did get a clue after a week or two - but yeah, once she was 'trained', she still wanted a prize. I changed it up to a daily dollar store prize and weekly 'big' prize to a once-a-month prize - if she stayed 'dry' for a whole month, she got a reward (Toys R Us trip with a $10 limit). That worked (finally!!!) :) I've heard that boys are harder than girls - and while Little Dude was potty trained when he came to us, he regressed and we had to retrain him...now he still at 5 wears pull-ups at night to avoid accidents (since he was still not getting up to go potty in the middle of the night - now some nights he'll get up 3 times if he feels the urge and he's been dry at night for the last couple of months...finally). :) Hang in there - when he decides it's time, he'll be a potty champ! :)

I hate insomnia, too - and I agree an adult nap should be mandatory. ;)
