A Christmas Story

I'm sure by now everyone has at least heard of the movie A Christmas Story. In our house it holds a special meaning for my husband. I will explain, I promise.

When I met Nick in 1993, I had never heard of this movie. That year was my first Christmas with Nick and his family. I sort of got dumped on them, long story-another time. They made me welcome, but were surprised that I had never even seen A Christmas Story. I watched bits and pieces of it but did not really get the point of the movie. It was a couple of years before I saw it complete from start to finish. I thought it was kind of weird but it has since grown on me.

Now, about Nick's connection with this movie. He also had a great aunt/grandma(the family tree gets a bit murky) who thought that Nicky(as he was called as a child) was a girl. For years he got dolls and other girl oriented presents for Christmas and had to act happy about it for this relative. He really identified with Ralphie in the movie.

Now we use certain lines from the movie at different times during the year. Some of these are:
-I can't put my arms down!
-You'll shot your eye out, kid!
-Frageelee--it must be Italian.

Obviously we don't get out much. Still A Christmas Story has become a tradition around our house at Christmas. I have been tempted to get Nick a copy of the leg lamp from the movie but have resisted so far.

What holiday movies are tradition around your house? We have other that we watch but none mean the same as this one. Happy holiday viewing everyone!

  2. We don't really have a favorite but if it was up to my daughter, it would star Dora!

  3. Every year, we must watch The Santa Clause, and I have to see Love Actually. I think I know what I'll put on tonight now!
