Spin Cycle--Hair!

Gretchen chose hair for the topic this week.  Hair.  For some it's an obsession.  For others a nuisance.  For others a  quest to keep what they have or get more.
I have had an uneasy relationship with my hair since I was given control of it at about age 12.  Before that my mom dictated what my hair was like.  She preferred my hair to be long and in braids.  Unfortunately, braids were not the cool thing to have in the early 80s.
Because she didn't do a lot to her own hair (still doesn't) she really didn't show me how to style my hair.  I learned by trial and error and by watching my hair dresser and copying what she did.  It was the time of big fluffy hair.
Here is an idea of how long I had my hair before cutting it.
I started by getting bangs cut.  I have stick straight hair, with a slight wave if left alone.  It's relatively fine, but I have tons of it.  When I was 14 I cut it short and then embarked on the long process of growing it out.  I grew it until I got pregnant with Turbo.  It was almost waist length at that time.  I cut it to shoulder length.  It has hovered between my shoulder and chin ever since.  I'm currently growing it so I can put it into braids and pony tails for camping this summer.
What my hair generally looks like.
Oh and when I was 15 I got my first body wave permanent.  I have had it permed about once a year ever since. It makes for a much easier wash and go hair style.  With two boys, I just don't have the time to spend lots of time on my hair.  I have played with color--but only the demi-permanent kind that washes out.  I don't want to have to spend the money to and time to keep it up.
After playing with color. I liked it and will probably do it again.
So there you have it, the story of my hair and it's lack of a true style.  I do sort of dream of getting a makeover, but that's probably not ever going to happen.
What do like or hate about your hair?

  1. I wonder if I have pictures of all my different hair colors and styles...?

  2. Your hair looks so easy breezy! I keep fighting the temptation to let mine grow out one last time before I'm too old to pull it off! I like the red, btw, nice for a change once in a while.

    You are LINKED!

  3. I didn't do much with my hair until a few months ago I decided to color it. When I was younger I was always changing it, color wise but have always liked my hair long. Once I cut it short...I mean chin short and I cried. I hated it...I am just not a short hair person. Other than that it's a wavy mess that I straighten to keep it under control. I've tried perms but they don't hold for more than 72 hours...seriously. I get mad paying $175 for a perm and it falling out after a few days. Though I've gotten a little braver lately and have had some sweepy bangs cut.
    I love 80's hair!

  4. I've had a love/hate relationship with my hair. Right now I'm in a "I can't win so I give up" relationship.

  10. I hate how badly my hair shows my grays! (<---I accidentally typed that "gays" at first!), It is so expensive to color my hair so I have to suffer with the grays sometimes longer than I should in between colorings!
