Spin Cycle--Exercise, Sure, I Love Exercising

So the Spin Cycle this week is all about exercise.  Which has turned out to be ironic.  See, I was exercising. I was doing pretty good at regularly running a mile three days a week.  It was doing me good. I had lost 8 pounds since the beginning of July.
And then...

My right foot began to hurt Saturday night.  I stayed off it and it felt OK by Monday morning.  I went for my mile run and my right foot started to hurt again when I was in the shower and it steadily got worse during the day.  I had to walk to the student Union for a presentation, less than a half mile. By the time I was done with the walk back to my office my foot was really hurting.
Strangely it didn't bother me to ride my bike, and if I only walked on the toes of my right foot there was almost no pain.  I iced it Monday night and took ibuprofen and tried to rest.  It still hurt Tuesday morning so I headed to the chiropractor.  He said it is most likely tendonitis.
So I get to take some time off from running.  And that just crushes me.  I so love running.  OK, OK, so I don't really like the running.  It is convenient, simple to do, and effective.  It is not fun.  I don't like doing it, but it fits the schedule.  I will never consider myself a runner.  But I run.
Now I guess I need to dig up the exercise DVDs I have, haul out the exercise ball, and figure out something else I can do to stay active.  I was going to have to do this anyway because the weather was going to stop the running before too long.  Just this morning we had the first frost of the season.
I'll take suggestions for exercise I can do in the living room that is interesting but not too complicated.  If it's too complicated, I'll hurt myself.  Hey, I managed to hurt myself just running around the park.  I've got to keep it simple.
Go see Gretchen for more exercise posts--you just might find inspiration.  I know I'm going to check on it so I can get some inspiration.

  1. OH, what a big drag! I HATE it when I get on a good roll and then my body derails me. Hopefully, this is just a minor setback and you can get back to your running soon. You should at least try to milk some sympathy out of this. I think you need to be spending some time on the sofa with your foot raised, making all of those boys wait on you hand and foot!

    You are linked!

  2. Where I live, the winter helps me to exercise, not keep me form it. I can't imagine if we had snow. ::Shudder::

  3. I know how you feel. I was so sure my heel problems were going to stop me from exercising, so it was a huge relief when the doc told me if I could play through the pain, it wouldn't do me any harm.

Have you ever tried yoga? I haven't done it in a while, but when I was practicing it regularly, I really enjoyed it. Lots of great DVDs you can do right in your own living room.

  4. Running is the last exercise in the world I would even attempt. I admire you for sticking with it and for losing 8 pounds. Hooray for you! My big kick is riding my exercise bike - definitely not complicated! I have bunches of exercise videos, but honestly I'd rather cycle my way to skinny right now. Maybe....I said maybe, I'll get back into the jumping, kickboxing groove until then I'm going to pretend I'm competing against Lance Armstrong. Best of luck to you and thanks for visiting!

  6. Way to go on losing 8 pounds! And an indoor exercise video I've done that isn't difficult is the 'Walk Away the Pounds' DVDs. I think the lady's name is Leslie Sandstone (or something like that) and it's just walking in place and doing a few moves. You can do videos of up to 5 miles in under an hour.

  7. I admire your dedication to running - me and running have never gotten along. ;)

I'm going to be breaking in my Wii Zumba on Sunday to start off the week - I'll let you know if it's 'complicated' or not. :) Congrats on the 8 pounds!! :)

  8. It sucks when injury limits your options. I hurt my foot a while back, so I switched to biking for a while. And it was a blast!
