Rtt: It's Tuesday again...

Tuesday again and I think that I really need the emptying of a Random Tuesday with Keely.

So we had dinner and pictures at the In-laws on Sunday.  I got to try Jimmy John's sandwiches.  Not bad and they deliver.

Spring Break is next week and I'm not sure what I'm going to do with Turbo for the week.  My mom is taking him for a couple days to visit relatives so that helps.  The weather probably won't cooperate so he can play outside.  We won't have outside play until at least the end of April--that's if I want him dry and mud free.

Sex according to Turbo:  You take off your shirts and kiss and roll around together.  Not to bad coming from a six year old.  He got this idea from Bones (the TV show.  Yeah, we watch quality television here.)

Bruiser won't talk yet but he will follow directions.  He will go across the room and get his blanket and bring it to me If I tell him to.  It's pretty cute to see him dragging his blanket around.

I am dreading, hate, extremely dislike not looking forward to the time change this weekend.  I wish they would just stick with one time and not change.  I like the extra daylight at the end of the day but the time change knocks me and the rest of the family for a loop.  It takes about two weeks to really get comfortable with the time change.  It really sucks.  And the fact that it keeps happening earlier and earlier in March does not help.

Self portrait-Sort of...

MommyBrain and Supah have challenged us to create a self protrait.  It can be a picture of yourself or one created with Wordle out of words that describe you.  I think you were supposed to use a thousand words or something like that.  I used maybe 150.  It's hard to think up that much to say about yourself.  Anyway, my wordle looked like this:




Not to much so I will leave you with as close to a self protrait as I can find (since I'm not near a camera right now.)

This was taken about three years ago with the new digital camera I got for graduating with my geology degree.  I am 33 here and Nick is 32.  Not probably the best picture but I think we make a cute couple.

Free Therapy Friday--Ya Big Bully

Ali at Home.. is where it begins and Mommy's Daze are hosting Free Therapy Fridays.  This week the topic is bullies.

Well, I have most certainly been bullied.  There was one girl who bullied me from about fourth grade until our senior year.  The kicker of it was, her family and mine went to the same chruch.  Real nice example.  She teased me and was rude and picked on me regularly for years.  And then she had the gall to wonder why I didn't want to be around her.

 I was an easy target in school.  I was nerdy and quiet and just different from the rest of the kids.  I didn't dress in the latest fashions and I was always reading.  I got picked on by lots of different kids.  Small towns suck unless you are one of the in people and I never was. 

Today, I hope that my sons won't have to deal with too much bullying.  Being boys, I know the dynamics are different.  Boys are physical where as girls are cruel with words.  I dread the first time Turbo comes home and has complaints of being bullied.  I also dread the first time he comes home and has been accused of bullying.  Lets just hope tht that time never comes.

Spin Cycle--Sporty Sports

Jen at Sprite's Keeper has thrown sports in to the Spin Cycle this week.  Me, I'm not much of a sports watcher.  I'll watch the Olympics and the Super Bowl but otherwise I'm not one for organized sports.  I was lucky in tht I fell in love with a guy who feels about sports much the same way I do. 

Nick swam when he was a kid.  He went to the junior Olympics twice.  He swam in high school and he cross-country skied.  Nick was also a competitive mountain biker until he was about 25.  These are all sports but they are individual sports.

I swam in high school and that shocked lots of people because I was the last person you would think of when thinking about sports.  I tended to get out pof the way of balls when they came at me.  I was hopeless in gym class.  I was the quintessential bookworm.  But I liked swimming.  I could do it and there were no balls involved. 

In college I liked going to football and basketball games but I really didn't know what was going on on the field or court.  I still don't know much about either.  I see maybe three football games a year--the Superbowl and a couple of college games when they televise a Wyoming Cowboys game.  Nick likes to listen to college games on the radio while he works in his garage or in the yard.  We are not died hard fans.

We stay active but we like the more individual type sports--we still cross-country ski and swim.  We still ride bikes, we hope Turbo learns this summer.  We have not yet gotten caught up in the kid sports circus.  I think we will encourage Turbo to swim.  I'm not much for soccer.

To Turbo's teacher--thank you very much for taking out your crankyness on our admittedly active son.  Let's all hope we survive this year.

Hey I thought this would be fun to do for today.  99 Things that I may or may not have done, and a little bit about the things I have done.  Michele at It's a Dog's Life did it and it looked fun. Let's see how many I have done.

1. Started your own blog- In November of 2009.  I still pretty new to this.
2. Slept under the stars -In California when I was five, at Jinks Lake. 
3. Played in a band
4. Visited Hawaii
5. Watched a meteor shower - the Leonid shower in 2001.  Fantastic.
6. Given more than you can afford to charity - never more than we can afford
7. Been to Disneyland - 3 times as a child to Disneyland.  Twice as an adult to Disneyworld. 
8. Climbed a mountain - lots, I'm a geologist, there's cool rocks on mountains.
9. Held a praying mantis-when I was little-about 4 or 5
10. Sang a solo - only with groups 
11. Bungee jumped - no desire to try this one.

13. Watched a thunder and lightning storm- from our front porch we get the best view of ones that are hittng the next town over the hill.

17. Walked to the top of the Statue of Liberty-GOt my picture taken in the crown when I was 12.
18. Grown your own vegetables - when I was a kid and we now have small gardens that we coax into growing even at our elevation and short growing season.

20. Slept on an overnight train several times on trips from California to Wyoming when I was a kid, but not in berths that turned into beds.
21. Had a pillow fight-with my brother growing up.

30. Watched a sunrise or sunset- I've done both-sometimes by choice and sometime's because other people decided thta I should see them (I'm looking at you Bruiser).

32. Been on a cruise On my honeymoon we had a day cruise out to Grand Bahama Island.  It sort of counts.
33. Seen Niagara Falls in person- When I was twelve.  Got to take a boat to the bse and get all wet.
34. Visited the birthplace of your ancestors I know where my mom grew up but beyond tht the places are scatterd and diverse.
35. Seen an Amish community At thanksgiving we went to Wisconsin and there are several Amish who live there.
36. Taught yourself a new language - I have a scattering of words remembered from high school Spanish and college German and that's it.
37. Had enough money to be truly satisfied - How about scraping by?
38. Seen the Leaning Tower of Pisa in person
39. Gone rock climbing - Yes but I could never lead climb.

42. Seen Old Faithful geyser erupt - Beautiful.

45. Walked on a beach by moonlight - Again on our Honeymoon, we walked on the beach on Grand Bahama island in the moonlight.

47. Had your portrait painted -I had a pastel portrait done to give to my mother.
48. Gone deep sea fishing- Of the group of four I was the only one who did not throw up on the trip.
49. Seen the Sistine Chapel in person

51. Gone scuba diving or snorkeling - Snorkling off grand Bahama Island-so want to go agan.
52. Kissed in the rain You bet, but not often-the rain we get is too cold most of the time.
53. Played in the mud it squishes nicely between the toes.
54. Gone to a drive-in theater -when I was a kid.  I saw The Raiders of the Lost Ark at the drive-in
55. Been in a movie
56. Visited the Great Wall of China
57. Started a business
58. Taken a martial arts class

61. Sold Girl Scout Cookies- I was never a girl scout.

63. Got flowers for no reason - Nick used to but I like other things than flowers.

67. Bounced a check - On occasion, much easier to avoid now that I can track my account on line.

69. Saved a favorite childhood toy -My mom saved several.  I didn't have a girl and am not sure what to do with them now.

72. Pieced a quilt - Helped my mother piece one or two.
73. Stood in Times Square- when I was twelve.
74. Toured the Everglades-Nick has and wants to take me there.
75. Been fired from a job - yes, I am not pushy enough to sell furniture.
76. Seen the Changing of the Guards in London -I think so, but I was like one and don't remember.
77. Broken a bone -Only my toe when it met a stool harder than it was.
78. Been a passenger on a motorcycle - a couple of times, once was a harley with big steel workers going through town to Strugis.
79. Seen the Grand Canyon in person - Camped overnight when Turbo was not quite two.  Spectacular.

81. Visited the Vatican
82. Bought a brand new car - yes, but much prefer slightly used cars. Easier on the pocket book.
83. Walked in Jerusalem
84. Had your picture in the newspaper - several times in high school--for sports and drama.
85. Kissed a stranger at midnight on New Year’s Eve

87. Killed and prepared an animal for eating - I've fished and prepared those for eating, perpared lots and lots of game animals for freezing and I've cooked lots of wild meat.
88. Had chickenpox - at age five.
89. Saved someone’s life -I was a life guard for several summers and I pulled out at least one little girl who got in over her head.
90. Sat on a jury
91. Met someone famous
92. Joined a book club - I've joined the selling type but not the reading type.
93. Got a tattoo
94. Had a baby - two beautiful boys.
95. Seen the Alamo in person - Twice on the outside.
96. Swam in the Great Salt Lake
97. Been involved in a law suit
98. Owned a cell phone - under protest form my husband-he hates them
99. Been stung by a bee - once and then I stepped on one once.

Wednesday--What I Meant to Say

It's Wednesday and that means it's time to tell everyone what you really meant to say.  It's a great way to get those nagging irritations off your chest (you know cause they just make your chest look all misshapen and lumpy in all the wrong places.)  Link up with Chief and let us know what you really meant.

When I said "Sure mom bring us some of you extra stew."
What I meant to say was:  "Umm, Mom, I know you mean well but you just don't cook like you used to.  the last stew you left us was nasty--green leafy things don't belong in stew.  Thanks but I can cook for myself now.  Just keep your attempts to cook to yourself. "

When I said to Nick, do you need to get up this morning and ski?  What I menat was please just set the alarm and get up when it goes off.  The darn thing wakes me up more than you and I hate the snooze button.  Get up already!

When I said I need to get back to my scrap books, what I meant was holy hell, I need to get caught up or Bruiser will think we only have one kid in the family and he only made it to 18 months old.  Gotta get going on that soon.  Time, I need more time in the day.

RTT: Dr. Suess and other stuff

It's Random Tuesday Time.  Keely is missing on vacation.  You got to go see Amy at Bitchin' Wives Club to link up this week.

OK so, This morning I had to call my mom for her glue gun.  See Turbo's school is celebrating Dr. Suess's birthday and they are allowed to wear crazy hats.  Turbo's hat had a loose button on the top that needed to be glued down.  The location of my glue gun is unknown at the present time.  My mom on the other hand knows where two of her's are.  She saved me and Turbo got to take his hat to school.  His hat looks like this from the back:

Yes it has all that hair on it.  Thank you Papa and Nana.  Turbo loves it.  Anyhair, that's what he took to school today.

Tax time was not so scary this year.  Last year was aweful.  This year much better.  I always get scared at tax time.  I'm worrie that we will have something horrible happen.  Last year we had to pay and it was horrible cause I ahd just lost my job.  This year the gov't will give us back some money.  Major relief.

Over the weekend we went to Casa Bonita in Denver.  It was Nick, Turbo and Bruiser's first trip to the circus that is Casa Bonita.  It is a place you go to for the atmosphere not necessarily the food.  Turbo had a ball and Bruiser loved looking around.  Turbo was in the magic show and played enough games to win a small prize.  Overall it was a fun evening for all of us.

MEme Monday--Kiss and Tell

MEme Monday is all about your first kiss.  Gos see SupahMommy and Mommybrain to tell about your first kiss.

My first kiss was not really memorable.  I was a late bloomer and I was 16 before I got kissed by a guy.  It was nothing special.  I don't even remember the guy's name.  I know, but really it was nothing to write home about.  I do however remember the first time Nick kissed me.  It happened on our first date.  After we went to see Groung Hog Day we went to his place.  He lived in a trailer that was outside of the city limits.  It was redneck central very college guy decorating.  Oh, and the plumbing was hit and miss--the bushes outside.  Made a great impression on me. 

He and his roommate had a cat and a dog.  (Don't rush me, the cat and dog are important to the story.)  Anykisses, we were hanging out at his place until his friend got off work so we could go there and watch videos.  As we were talking, Nick sort of moved in and then the dog wanted out.  More talking and then the cat wanted in.  Again more talking and moving in and then the dog wanted in.  Finally Nick got frustrated enough to just say, "Man I want to kiss you but I keep getting interrupted."  So I went to stand in front of him and said, "Then just kiss me."  And we did.  Tingles down to my toes.  There was no awkward tongue wiggling, no sloppiness, no tonsil hockey.  It worked great and must have had some magic cause we are still together today.

I had had other first kisses with guys I had dated.  But Nick was endearing with his attempts to be smooth and then his frustrated request.  It was nice to have a guy not just assume that a kiss was a foregone conclusion.  Yeah I was in college and had dated my share of conceited 18 and 19 year olds.  Nick was genuinely nice.  I liked that.  Enough to stay with him for the next 17 years and 3 days.  But who's counting?
