It's been ten years since I started and the blogging world I joined then is quite different now. So many of the wonderful bloggers I followed when I started this adventure are no longer gracing us with their wit and words.

My world has changed too. When this started I was the mom of two young boys. Now they are both in double digits and so much closer to independence. Turbo is 16. He drives, has a girlfriend, and is going about this growing up thing pretty well. Bruiser is 11. He's in fifth grade and doing quite well. He is taking a martial arts class and really enjoying it.

Two years ago we got word from our work that we had to move to keep our jobs. So we moved. Away from friends and family. Away from our comfort zone. Just away. Now we live in a new town with a new house and hopefully new friends. I have trouble making friends. I am an introvert and just have trouble putting myself out there to meet people. I'm trying but it's very slow going.

The last two years have been a roller coaster and not really in a good way. Nick has had health issues. An ankle surgery, oral surgery to remove an impacted wisdom tooth, a neuropathy in his hand, allergy issues, the list goes on.

For myself, I'm still dealing with occasional kidney stones, stress related stomach issues and just recently, I had a colonoscopy. I had it done because my mother died of colon cancer four years ago. She had a brother who also died of colon cancer. They offered me the genetic test, but I decided that I just wanted to go straight to the colonoscopy. It a good thing I did, they found and removed a rather large polyp that did, after testing, show as precancerous. I get to go back in for another colonoscopy in three months. Fun times. Oh and I am also dealing with pre-menopause heading to menopause. Getting older sucks.

So that is just a little of what has been going on here. There is so much more. I think writing out some of this will be good for me. I certainly don't have friends who drag me out of the house where we live now. I working on it, but it's not easy.VandyJhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02874470026207258769noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2932410355772638647.post-3385013841000261382019-10-23T08:50:00.001-06:002019-10-23T08:50:20.399-06:00Hi to the CricketsSo yeah, I have not really fallen off the face of the earth, but the blogging bug has flown off to warmer climates and then didn't come back. But it has been just almost 9 years since I started this blogging thing. So much has changed since I dipped my toe into the blogging world in search of an outlet and a connection.

I had a 10 month old Bruiser, who is now 9.

A 6 year old Turbo, who is now 15 and (OMG Driving!!!).

We have moved towns, but not states.

I have had one blog inspired meet up and hope to have a couple more.

I went from a relatively isolated mom to a small, but solid network of friends (which I get the challenge of rebuilding in my new town).

I got to share some epic road trips and vacations.

I have knocked a few things off my bucket list.

I have added a few things to the bucket list.

I have made some annual promises and kept a majority of them.

I have come to realize I need to blog again for my sanity's sake. Blogging helps me not feel so isolated. I'm hoping it will help until I can develop a network here. Being an introvert sucks. I totally need an extrovert to come drag me out of the house.

For me, cats count as friends too!

So all in all things are going as well as can be expected in our new town. I will make friends, but it will be a process.

And how have things been in the blog world?VandyJhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02874470026207258769noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2932410355772638647.post-92132948530736573212018-10-08T08:31:00.002-06:002018-10-08T08:31:30.967-06:00Back in the GrooveWe are slowly getting settled into a routine here in our new town. The summer was a nice time to transition, but with school starting we are getting back into the groove of routine and such.

Turbo is really liking his new school. The high school here has a block system that is more like college in that you take a class for a semester and not for the entire year. Turbo has fit into this system quite well so far. We are still addressing his attention issues, he likes to daydream and tends to have focus issues in class sometimes. He is also learning to drive. he is making friends and finding where he fits in and that is nice.

Bruiser has found several boys in the neighborhood his age and has friends and such that he is enjoying spending time with. He also likes school and is doing well. For my little introvert, he is quite social here. He does still need his down time for himself. But it's nice that he has kids his age in our neighborhood.

Nick and I are doing pretty well. Nick has friends he can go mountain bike riding with and have that all important social connection with. I am muddling through. Making friends is and has always been a slow process for me. I'm working on it but I know it will be slow going.

Life still gets away form us on occasion, but we are getting a better handle on it every day.

On a lighter note, it snowed here today. Typical Wyoming weather. Not a lot of snow but enough to stick on the ground. We have off and on snow predicted all day today. Fun times!

I will be telling more about the Disney trip but first some of what we have been doing lately. This weekend we scouted a lake nearby for camping and kayaking suitability. Then we floated down the river here in town on Sunday.
Saturday was a scouting trip, like I said. Pathfinder Reservoir is a body of water about an hour from our house. Right now it is very low, as it is a reservoir water rights down stream cause it to be drained as the season advances. This opens up lots of beach area, but reduces water surface for water activities. There are some nice camp areas and next weekend we may go camping.
We will most likely have to tent it since the camper broke. The bumper that helps support the back bed on our pop up camper broke. The weld on one side failed as Nick and Turbo were hauling it up to Casper from Laramie. So it is off getting re-welded in place.
If we don't tent it we can still go spend the day with family who will be out there camping. Take the kayaks and go have a day on the lake. Sounds like fun, no?!
Since the water was so low we took a trip to a local historic landmark. Independence Rock was about 5 minutes from where we were. It is a landmark on the Oregon trail. We climbed to the top and saw a couple of carved names from the 1840s and 1850s. It was fun seeing history like that.

Sunday we floated about 4 miles of river through town. It was windy, but we had a good time and got to hit the water park, ie. created rapids and water falls the city has put together. Nick and I both dumped on the first rapid, but Turbo and Bruiser rode them out with no trouble. Nick and Turbo went on down to the other three rapids/waterfalls but Bruiser and I called it quits after the first one.
Took the boys down and drank the Disney Koo-laid. It was pretty good. Now we don't need to do that again. The interesting thine is that we have been in Disney every 10 years since 1998. Nick and I went to Disney on our honeymoon August 1998. We took Turbo to Disney when he was 5 in 2008. (Side note: I came home and found out I was pregnant with Bruiser, we tease he was there then but couldn't see out.) And now we were back at Disney in 2018. I am hoping we don't do Disney in 2028 (I want a beach. With cabana boys and fruity drinks.)
Anyway, both boys had a fabulous time in the world of Disney. We started our first day (after totally awful travel) at Epcot, per Bruiser's request. We made rope drop, and were able to do Soarin' before we headed to our first Fast Pass at the Test Track. A trip through Imagination with Figment preceded Spaceship earth and then we did Mission Space: Trip to Mars. Which was awesome!

After this, we headed back to the resort for a late lunch and pool time. We missed a rain storm, which cleared the park a bit and we wandered the countries loop of Epcot and had a nice walk while hitting the various areas of Epcot before the fireworks show.
All in all Friday was a busy day. We all slept well Friday night. Saturday was Typhoon Lagoon then off to Animal Kingdom. Interesting side note, Animal Kingdom debuted 20 years ago, about 2 months before we got married and visited on our honeymoon. I was not aware of this fact when we visited while on our honeymoon, but it makes for a nice story now.
Anyway, we did Avatar Flights of Passage (which was a fantastic ride, overall one of the best rides we went on while at Disney) then it was off the Kali River Rapids. Strangely, we had the Kali river raft all to ourselves. Just the four of us. It was weird, but fun anyway. Our last ride at the Animal Kingdom was Expedition Everest. The roller coaster ride was fun, more fun than Nick thought it would be anyway.
I'll share more Vacation fun tomorrow, I have three more park days to share!VandyJhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02874470026207258769noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2932410355772638647.post-57679329455880881902018-07-31T08:41:00.000-06:002018-07-31T08:41:18.450-06:00RandomsRandom Tuesday time!
Killing time in airports is almost worse than killing time on airplanes. During our prolonged travel, the wifi in the airport in Denver was helpful, but we did get a few rounds of Mad Libs in with the boys. It got laughs and passed some time. (A thought just crossed my mind--Mad Libs are the predecessor of Cards Against Humanity. They work about the same, just with a more prescribed outcome for Cards.)

We were smart and planned out a few days to recover from the trip when we got back. Laundry, groceries and just plain recovery from the trip in general. You know you have vacationed when you need a vacation from your vacation.

Next time we do a big vacation I demand that a beach and ocean be involved. I want to sit on a beach and also be able to snorkle and collect shells. A cabana boy bringing me drinks would be a bonus.

Seven days in Orlando, five of which we spent enjoying Disney World. Two days were mostly travel days.
Travel to Orlando was a seven hour delayed adventure. Our flight was first delayed due to storms in Orlando, then when they finally got clearance to fly, the plane was broken. So, new plane then we needed a new crew. Then new catering, cause we can't have food that was sitting four hours waiting for us to have clear weather. So yeah, we landed in Orlando at 1:00am. We were supposed to arrive there at 6:30. We hit our room at the resort at 2:30am.
We were up and going the next morning and at Epcot by 8:45am. We hit it hard and really didn't stop until we got home. We did Epcot, Typhoon Lagoon, The Animal Kingdom, Blizzard Beach, Hollywood Studios, and The Magic Kingdom. We enjoyed fast passes and didn't wait in a line for longer than 45 minutes our entire trip. I think we did just about everything the boys would have wanted to and we had fairly decent weather for the week we were there. Oh, it rained, but never for long while we were out in it. The boys got pool time and ride time and we all came back feeling very vacationed.
1. I feel most energized when I _______________________.
Get some alone time and can read and listen to music. I am an introvert and really recharge by being alone and quiet. Reading is a refuge and outlet both.

2. Where were you ten years ago?
Ten years ago we were fresh back from a trip to Florida: Clearwater Beach and Disney World. Just after we got back I discovered that I was pregnant with Bruiser. Turbo was five and would be headed to Kindergarten and I was working from home as a geologist for a Uranium exploration company.
3. July 17th is World Emoji Day. Do you use emojis? Which one's your favorite? Your most used?
I use emojis when I text Nick and Turbo. I will use the occasional smiley face with other texts but I am not really a big time user. I don't even have a favorite.

4. What song would you put on a wedding DO NOT PLAY list?
Alanis Morrisette's You Oughta Know:

A song about a nasty breakup, most definitely not wedding ready.

5. What deserves less of your attention? More of your attention?
I should probably spend less time reading. I love to read, but should not try to spend all my free time reading.
My family deserves more of my attention. With the move and us all being together all the time now we are spending more time as a family doing things together other than just sitting at home. This is a good thing.
Nick went fishing all day Saturday, he didn't catch any, but the guys he was with did. He had fun though and got to see a reservoir he hadn't before.

Friday evening we hit Food Truck Friday down by the river. Wood fired pizza, ice cream cones and a couple of TABs made for a good evening. When we got home there was hanging out with neighbors and good tunes. It's nice to have a good neighborhood to live in.

Saturday morning Nick left at 5 to go fishing and the boys and I hung around the house and didn't do much other than groceries and laundry. It was hot, so the boys and I stayed inside with the central air. A bit of a novelty for us this central air. Nick got home around 9:30 and there was more garage hanging out to be done.

Sunday had less things to be done. Nick did some weeding in the back yard and I got a nap. Really it was nice to have a quiet weekend before our vacation. Now all I have to do is pack and get the house ready for the house sitter who is coming to watch the house and the dog.

Share a camping location that you think is a Must-Visit

We go camping a lot. On average we try to get camping at least twice a year, if not more. We have been several places.
Kemmerer Wyoming; or at least the mountains above Kemmerer.
Beaver Creek Campground in the Black Hills.
Veedauwoo Wyoming.
Telephone mountain Wyoming.
Alcova Lake Wyoming.
Arches National Park
Grand Canyon National Park
Several places in the Snowy Mountians:

Lake Owen

Rob Roy Reservoir

Cinnabar Park

Rambler Estates and land plots (we camped on a land plot)

Pelton Creek Campground

However, our favorite place would have to be the Picaroon on the North Platte river. Getting there can be an adventure in and of itself. A one lane dirt road with tight switch backs makes getting campers down to the Pic a fun process. Once down to our favorite place to set up we are right on the river and sheltered under lovely cottonwood shade trees.
There are several options for activities:

River rafting

Kayaking

Fishing

dam building

simple wading

We also love the fact that we always go with family we thing of as friends. We have many great memories of fantastic times at the Picaroon.

1. What's something in your house you'd like to get rid of but can't?
Since we just moved, there is not a lot of extraneous stuff hanging around right now. There are still boxes to unpack but not as many as you would think. Since we spent 9 months moving, we moved and unpacked as we went. Got rid of most of the extras as we went as well.

2. When is the last time you experienced a sense of nostalgia? Elaborate.
Well, this sounds kind of awful, but at the liquor store there is a new beer: a Baies Ameres Saison Chokecherry. It made me remember the chokecherry wine my mother used to make. Made me a bit nostalgic for my mother and picking chokecherries. We always went on my birthday, the end of August because they were ripe by then.

3. You're only allowed three apps on your smart phone or tablet...which three do you keep?
Facebook is a given. NOAA Weather app and Google maps. The weather is something we check regularly. Google maps is necessary so I know where I'm going.

4. July 11th is National Blueberry Muffin Day. Who knew? Do you like
blueberry muffins? If you were going to have a muffin would blueberry be
your choice? What's the last thing you baked?
I do like blueberry muffins, but am less into homemade ones. If I had to choose, I prefer Almond Poppy seed muffins. The last thing I baked was macaroni and Cheese just last night, from scratch. It was very tasty!

5. What's the biggest way you've changed since you were a child? In what way are you still the same?
I will speak up for my self more often than I did as a child.
I still am an avid reader. I am always reading and have been since I was about 9.

6. Insert your own random thought here.
In our new town there are a few thrift stores I need to go check out. I have yet to see what they have other than checking them out online. There is also a consignment shop to go visit. I have to admit I will miss the consignment store in our old town, it was large and had a wonderful selection for the boys. I liked shopping there too.
I need to go see what the local shops have. Especially since back to school will be coming soon. So here goes:

Saw this scrolling around Facebook. As a geologist we can always find more rocks.

I got Nick a weather station for Christmas and we all geek out over it a bit. It has a lightening detector that shows how many strikes in the last 48 hours and the distance to the last one. It's kind of cool to know how far away the strikes were.

Our cat has become fascinated by the garage. In the new house we have an attached garage. She loves to dart in there and "hunt" ants. Or stare at them with high levels of fascination.

My fourth post ever was about being the finder in the house. this sums it up perfectly:

I love that Nick is handy. he is great at doing those little projects around the house. Last night he put in a shelf for the cat to watch the birds from.

But first what we did for the 4th of July.

We paddled 3 miles up a canyon that is part of a local lake. We got far too much sun but had a blast in the process. We will definitely do this again.

There were fireworks later that evening, but we only saw them from a distance. We were just far too tired to want to deal with traffic by getting closer. And we are taking the boys to Disney World so they are going to get up close and personal fireworks there.

After that adventure, the rest of the week was relatively quiet. Saturday Nick got motivated and started the closet in Bruiser's room. We sort of had to build him a room when we moved into the new house. He now has not only a wall, but a partial closet and a door. Yep, a real closing door. Nick hung that this weekend too.
There was haircuts for all the guys this weekend and some hanging out with the neighbors, turned into quite the mini cook out. Good time were had and a good weekend all the way around.

Now for MMMM. This week is a freebie week and here's what we have been listening to at home:
Turbo has discovered 80s music and loves this one:
The Bangles with Walk Like an Egyptian:

Bruiser like 80s rock with this as his favorite:

Nick of course loves all kinds of music and since we have the Amazon Fire cube with Alexa he has been having fun calling up music. We both enjoy this one:
The Proclaimers with I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles):

Have a great week everyone!
The weeks do march on. Let's get the party going:

Bruiser's favorite phase is "If I'm correct..." He says it all the time and prefaces most of his statements with it. It's a bit odd coming out of a nine year old. Makes him sound about 40.

We think we have a feral cat living in the massive juniper bush in the back yard. He's orange and large. I haven't seen him, but Nick and Turbo have. We cut back part of the juniper this weekend, Nick called it a sun porch for Garfield. With the discovery of a couple of very old (predating us) dog toys, it was time for the juniper to be subdued. I think I might be allergic to the juniper. It gave me some irritated red bumps and scraps.

Last night the boys went and raced (well, recreation class racing, so nothing intense) a local mountain bike club race. It was called the Fat Fish Racing summer circuit. This race was the Maze Craze. They had a lot of fun. I went along for moral support and was the cheering section. I was also in charge of pictures.

I must say I miss the temperatures in Laramie. It never got much over 90 there and then only for a few days. Here we hit the 90s+ almost regularly. At least it cools off at night still here, maybe not as much, but it does cool off.

We are still unsure of our exact plans for tomorrow, the 4th of July, but water, our kayaks and plenty of sun are definitely involved.

Everyone have a wonderful 4th of July!
It started Friday. Turbo went and took the test to get his learner's permit. He passed on his second try at the test. He is now an official learning driver. I'm slightly scared, and completely wanting to deny the passage of time. It can't have been that long since he was a baby in my arms.

After that triumph, we went on to do a ton of yard work. I pulled thistles upon thistles. Nick now calls me the Thistle Princess. I'm not a fan of thistles and our yard came with far to many of them. Now we have a lot less of them.

Saturday it rained so we ran a lot of errands around town, groceries, bike shop, the hardware store. I did laundry, and such. It was a quiet kind of day, but still quite nice.

Sunday we started out by pulling more thistles. I really have a war going on with them. I will win the war. After the weed pulling we loaded up the boys and got lunch, sub sandwiches, and headed to Ayer's Natural Bridge, a rock arch that has water flowing under it, so it is a true natural bridge. It was a lovely park and the boys got to wade and try their hands at dam building. We also stopped at a near by state park with a lake and river access. We will be heading out there again.

Once back home, Nick took Bruiser to the rec center so Bruiser could do some proper swimming. Then after they got home, Nick and I got the wild bug to do more yard work. We borrowed a hedge trimmer from the neighbor and attacked the wildly overgrown juniper bushes in our back yard. We discovered about four feet of stairs, several lost dog toys and hacked back a ton of branches. We are quite proud of our efforts. So much more needs to be done, but we had to start somewhere.

Now for MMMM. This week is patriotic songs so here you go:

Toby Keith with Made in America:
Have a great week. Ours is shaping up to be busy.

We moved this month. Packed up the whole kit and caboodle and moved to another town entirely, not just across town. We moved 150 miles north, but at least we get to stay in the same state. It wasn't exactly our choice, work said to keep your jobs, you move. So we moved. I think I would have been far more on board with the whole thing if we had made the decision on our own, but we were given no other real option. Neither of us wanted to move to Houston or Oklahoma, so here we are.
Our new house is much larger than our old one was. Our stuff seems to have expanded kind of like those little tablets you add to water. I miss our little house. We lived there for almost 21 years. It was home. This larger house is going to take some getting used to.
I still have boxes and bins in the garage that need to be unpacked, but not as many as there were, I am whittling away at the stack. We still have pictures to hang to make the house more our own. And then there are the bigger changes we will be making to improve the house. A new master bath, an updated kitchen, change the trim in most of the house. Finish up the creation of Bruiser's bedroom.

We have a huge backyard. Big enough to run our four wheelers around in. The back yard has had no real attention for going on 10 years. Parts of it are quite over grown. We are contemplating having some one come and trim things up (or beat back the bushes) so we have a place to start. We have never had a yard like this. Our old yard was postage stamp sized and so easy to take care of. This one takes a bit more work.
So that was our June. Completely taken over by the Great Move of 2018.
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">
1. Security or freedom? Can you have both? Explain.
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">If you feel secure then you can be free to be yourself. I think you can have both.

2. If you could visit any historical American site what would it be? Why?
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I would go visit the Smithsonian Museums in DC. I have always loved history, I got my first degree in History. I didn't get to do much with it but I would have loved to be a museum curator or work in an archive.

3. Free as a bird, free reign, be free of, free enterprise, free trip, walk away scot free, free for all...which 'free' phrase can best be applied to your life in recent days or weeks? Explain.
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">This is a tough one. Free reign comes closest. I have free reign to create dinner menus, decorate the house, read any book I feel like, and just a bit of free reign at work as to projects I do, as long as I do what needs to be done around those projects.
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">
4. Something in your fridge that's red? Something in your house that's white? Something in your view that's blue?
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Red: cherries, raspberries and grapes.
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">White: all the trim in our new house is white. It isn't my favorite, but we get the fun of changing the trim to something more our taste.
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Blue: The couple painting Nick and I did, Nick's side of the painting is a blue night with the moon.
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

5. July 27th is National New Jersey Day. Have you ever visited The Garden State? If so where did you go? Are there diners where you live? Have you tried Taylor Pork Roll? Do you like to play Monopoly? Salt water taffy-yay or nay? How do you feel about shopping at the mall? Springsteen, Sinatra, or Bon Jovi-you have to pick one.
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">
Raise your hand if you know why these add-on questions are appropriate on National NJ Day.

<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I have visited the Garden State, but I was 12 and on my way to visit my aunt in New York City.
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">We do have a Diner, Johnny J's, great burgers and shakes. No on the Pork Roll. Not a fan of Monopoly. Love Salt water taffy. I like the mall, but the ones around here are fading. I am a die hard Bon Jovi fan. Bruiser is a big fan too.
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">
6. Insert your own random thought here.
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">So we are moved into the new house. The unpacking is ongoing. But we have had a bit of fun. Four wheelers in the back yard. A bit of time downtown.

It's Tuesday, so let's random up the joint. Here are some of the random thoughts that are floating through my brain:

I just love random mystery bruises that seem to show up all the time on my legs. I look down in the shower and go hey, where did that come from? On the other hand, I will bang into something and think that will leave a mark and nothing.

I also have a migraine. Those are just lovely too. It's going to be a long week.

Coming up with summer chores for the boys is a challenge. They are home during the day and we really want them to not spend every moment playing video games and getting screen time. So we assign outside stuff, walking the dog, going to the park, go outside to read. Outdoor chores like pine cone pick up, water trees and such are also common. They have also been unpacking stuff for their rooms.

Summer dinners have become a bit more lax as far as timing and side dishes. We are eating a lot of veggies and I am trying to get more fruit into everyone. Dinner s are a lot lighter for summer. we are also a bit busier here in our new city. Lots of things to do and places to go.

I got invited to join a book club. I'm not usually much of a book club reader. I tend to avoid popular fiction, but it will be a way to get out and meet new people. I'm going to try it.

The other big news we have is we are taking the boys to Florida in July to Disney World. Bruiser has never been and he needs to experience the mouse. We are all looking forward to going on vacation. This will also be Bruiser's first plane flight.

So there you have it, just some random for a Tuesday. Have a great week!

Things with the blog sort of got shoved to the back burner with moving and all that entailed. We are now just about moved in, well most of our stuff is here in Casper. I still have boxes, bins and bags to unpack.
The kitchen is mostly done and the bathrooms are unpacked as well. My clothes are about 75% unpacked. The boys' rooms are just about unpacked. They have a game room pretty well set up for them to hang out in.
We planted some aspen trees this weekend. It's a sort of memorial for my mother and Nick's great aunt who have both passed away in the last few years. The trees are small, but hopefully we will make them happy so they grow quickly.

With this move, I am a bit lost as to a support group. I don't have friends here, there are potential acquaintances, but no friends and I am feeling just a bit isolated. Nick has been dealing with his own issues as far as this move is concerned. He is trying to be strong, but his needs are so different from mine. Extrovert vs. introvert. Nick is a classic extrovert, I am such an introvert. It's hard to reconcile these different approaches, but hopefully we will be able to muddle through.VandyJhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02874470026207258769noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2932410355772638647.post-43949444950888037972018-03-28T07:54:00.001-06:002018-03-28T07:54:21.888-06:00Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. What's a word that describes your life? A word you wish described your life?
Disjointed. Things are stretched between two houses and towns, so I feel disjointed at the moment.
Wish: Intriguing. I like life to be interesting. Not exactly exciting, but entertaining and interesting.

2. Back in my day we___________________________________?
Called people and they had no idea who was calling when the phone rang. Conversely, when the phone rang we had no idea who was calling. Made calling a teenage crush much less personally incriminating.

3. When it comes to takeout are you more likely to opt for Italian,
Mexican, or Chinese food? Does a typical week at your house include
takeout?
We are not regular take out people, but we do enjoy it on occasion. When we do have it we go more for Chinese or Italian. Actually, more delivery than takeout. If we want the convenience, we go for total service and have it delivered.

4. Think about the people you most respect. What is it about them that earned your respect?
Their honesty and integrity. I like people who are genuine. They don't shift with the popular opinion.

5. What's something your friends might see and say is 'so you'?
Books, Country music, Fantasy genre and hands on painting crafty stuff. Cat collectibles but not clothes, camping with friends but not too much people time.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

A couple months ago I got to do a paint party with a friend. The painting came with a light up element. I think it turned out fantastic:
But now I'm back. It's been a busy time around the Jones place. We are continually moving more stuff to Casper. This 9 month moving process is lower on the stress, but I'm still not a fan. We have two months to M Day (Moving Day). by the time that day rolls around I'm hoping that most of the misc. stuff is moved so all we have is the big stuff. Moving this way leaves fewer boxes to unpack on the other end.
Anyway, how about we do a bit of random:

I have fired up my old netbook for blogging again. I got a bit lazy and haven't been diligent about creating posts recently. I have been feeling the bloggy bug though so we shall see where this goes.

I took Bruiser to a paint party. We painted bunny butts. See:

and we had a wonderful mother son afternoon.

Easter is sneaking up on us this year. Bruiser and I will dye eggs this weekend. Hopefully it will be warm enough for an outdoor egg hunt. We rarely get those, but this year we will be in Casper and it should be warm enough.

I have basket fillers to acquire. As well as Bunny gifts. Camp chairs and chocolate. Sounds good no?

Nick and I have taken to taking walks around the neighborhood, both in Casper and here in Laramie. I like looking at the various houses around us. In Laramie we see lots of craftsman style homes and then the styles grade into newer and newer style houses. It's fun to look. In Casper most of the houses in our neighborhood are late 70s to early 80s homes. Still fun to look at.

Well not a terribly varied random, but it's a start. Have a great week!

1. February can be a little bit tricky given the weather and the winter and the whatnot. I read a list (here) of things you can do to make your February brighter which included-start
planning your next trip, take more baths, make your own chocolate
covered strawberries, and exercise in preparation for swimsuit season. Anything on the list you might try? Which suggestion on the list appeals to you most? Tell us something not on the list that helps make your February brighter.
OK, so Nick and I have determined that we are taking the boys to see the Mouse in Florida this summer, so vacation planning is definitely the way for us to beat the February Blues this year. Therefore I am exercising as a swimsuit will be worn this summer.
As we are moving this summer too, I have been cleaning things around the house and packing up the sundries to send with Nick on his trips to work in Casper. There are parts of the house that are starting to look a bit bare. The more we move in the little trips means less boxes to fill when the big move happens in June.

2. Tell us about something you've seen or done recently that you'd say was 'super'?
We attended a Superbowl party. There was a "super" taco bar. It was fun and tasty. THe game was good too, but I'm not much of a football fan.

3. Best thing you ate in a 'bowl' last week?
I made a mexican lasagna with chopped grilled chicken, black beans, corn and diced tomatoes, layered with tortillas and just a bit of cheddar cheese, It was so tasty with sour cream on top.

4. Something you're 'cheering' for right now?
Well not exactly right now, but come Friday we will be cheering on the winter Olympics.

5. The Winter Olympics begin Friday, February 9th in Pyeong Chang, South
Korea. On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being all in and 1 being no interest
whatsoever) how interested are you in the games? Which event do you
most want to see (you'll find a list here).
We are about an 8 or a 9. we love watching the games, be they summer or winter. For the winter games, we like nordic skiing, ice skating (figure and speed), alpine skiing, bobsled, snow boarding, really most of it.

6. Insert your own random thought here.
Last week I went to a pop up paint party and got to make a lighted painting. It was such fun.

Now I just need to get out the hot glue gun and fix the lights in place.

Have a great week!

51. What is the one item you can’t leave home without?
Carmex. Or another type of lip balm. We live in a dry climate and having something to keep my lips from cracking is necessary.
52. What is your favorite music genre?
Right now country.
53. What is the furthest you’ve ever been from home?
When I was 13 months old my mother took me to England. I have no memories of the trip, but I went. The furthest from home I remember being was the trip to the Bahamas Nick and I took on our honeymoon.
54. Who is the best teacher you ever had?
I had a professor when I was getting my first bachelors degree who taught 20th century European history. He was a no nonsense, to the point type of teacher. I learned a lot from him about how to get to the point in an essay.
55. Who is the first person you call when something exciting happens?
Either C or N, two of my friends who would both be excited, or commiserate with me depending on the news I had to share.
56. Who is the first person you call when something horrible happens?
Same as above. Good friends are so necessary
57. What is your most embarrassing moment?
Not so much a moment, but both Nick and I were a bit red faced the next day. We were camping with a three year old Turbo. He had difficulty saying the st sound, it came out d sounding. As with camping, we had a campfire. Turbo liked to poke sticks in said fire. He also did not like toasted marshmallows, he would rather eat them raw or "naked" as he called it. Now imagine, if you will, sitting in a nice family campground and hearing a little kid yelling out "Mommy! I want to eat marshmallows naked and put my stick in the fire!" only the stick sounds like dick. Yeah. We got some really weird looks the next day.
58. What are some of your bad habits?
I tie knots in my hair. I twist it around my fingers, and sometimes I end up with small knots in it that I just can't get out. It's a nervous/boredom habit I have had since I was little.
59. Who is your favorite musician?
There are so many I like. Right now I really enjoy Dierks Bently.
60. What is the first movie you remember seeing?
My first memory of attending a movie was a drive in movie to see Escape from Alcatraz. I remember the cartoon a bit and the scene where the inmate goes nuts and cuts off his own fingers. It was the mid 70s, not so much with the kid movies then.
