We are slowly warming up here. This morning it was only -6F. WE set a new record low temp yesterday with a whopping -38F. The last time it was that cold was back in the 80's. Nick and Turbo had fun throwing boiling water in the air and watching it sublimate instantly. If we had had bubble stuff we would ahve gone out and blew bubbles to watch them freeze. Why, yes, we are geeks.
While we didn't get the snow that the rest of the country got, the cold air more than made up for it. It has just been too damn cold. There is snow predicted for this weekend for us, and more cold temps--thankfully not as cold as what we just had.
Did you know that if you leave bottled water to stand and get cold the water will stay liquid and only freeze if the bottle is bumped or dropped? We did this and Turbo thought it was so cool the make the bottle instantly freeze while he watched. Super cooled water is fun. The geek thing again.
OK, everyone else stay warm and toasty.
Oh my gosh that is SO cold. Stay warm. And it sounds like you guys were teaching the kids stuff. Not being geeky!
ReplyDeleteYou educated me today!
ReplyDeleteStay warm...I can't imagine those temps.
Sublimate. I really like that word.
ReplyDeleteThe geek thing is always awesome. You do know that the New American Hero of the 21st century is the geek?
Brrr. Little old men across the country are standing by wood stoves saying, "This is SOME weather we're having"
ReplyDeleteHOW THE HECK DO YOU SURVIVE IN -38 DEGREE WEATHER? I'd have to like wear a bear or something.
ReplyDeleteThe water bottle thing & frozen bubbles... Really REALLY cool. That would be awesome to watch! Your kiddos are lucky they have "geeks" for parents.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea you could do that with a bottle of water! Cool!
ReplyDeleteUmmm....-38 degrees? Where are you, the NORTH POLE? Nope. No way. I could NEVER live there. EVER. I would freeze my girlballs off. Yes, I have some of those. I use them quite frequently. =)
ReplyDeleteSTAY WARM!
I think I saw a show about that water freezing trick, and I've wanted to try it ever since!
ReplyDeleteScience can sure be fun sometimes...
Okay clicked on the link from your recap and I think I froze just reading this!! Hope this doesn't happen again this year.
